What Local Clubs Offer

Joining a local rock, mineral, or fossil club gives you access to a wide range of activities and learning opportunities.

Most clubs offer:

  • Educational and engaging monthly meetings, usually held between September and May or June
  • Guest speakers who share knowledge on rockhounding, mineral collecting, and lapidary arts
  • Newsletters that keep members informed about upcoming events, club news, and educational topics

They also organize:

  • Guided field trips to collecting sites
  • Courses and workshops in the lapidary arts
  • Jewelry-making sessions

Some clubs host:

  • Annual mineral, gem, and fossil shows featuring specimens from Canada and around the world
  • Sales, auctions (silent and live), and rock swaps, making it easy to grow your collection or find a special specimen

Local clubs welcome both individual and family memberships and provide a friendly environment where members can learn from experienced rockhounds and lapidaries.

  6. A Zoom account – so that clubs can have hybrid meetings – face-to-face and virtual – thereby, offering a choice for members who can’t make it “live” to meetings.
  7. Awards that recognize the collecting and lapidary skills by club members. As well, we recognize educational contributions by clubs, club members, and outside companies and landowners.
  8. Kits for both Field Trips and Lapidary – ensuring health & safety – plus fun and enjoyment – for all.
  9. Advice and help with:

Bancroft Gem and Mineral Club (BGMC)

  Located in Bancroft, the “Mineral Capital of Canada”. The Club owns and operates the Bancroft Mineral Musem, (check website for operating hours and admission), |NOTE, this website has not yet been created| and has an annual one day gem & mineral show on the Sunday before the Rockhound Gemboree. It is located at the Bancroft Fish & Game Club, 10 am to 4 pm.

The Rockhound Gemboree operates on the 4 days preceding the holiday Monday in August,(Civic Holiday).

Meetings: Meetings are the 2nd Thursday of the month, expect July and December, at the Bancroft Municipal Office, (the Old Train Station”).

Kingston Lapidary and Mineral Club (KLMC)

The Kingston Lapidary and Mineral Club provides a positive environment for local rockhounds, lapidary enthusiasts and silversmiths. The Club is very active. In addition to diverse monthly meetings, weekly lapidary instruction and frequent silversmithing courses ​are provided in our workshop.

Kitchener Waterloo Gem and Mineral Club (KWGMC)

Niagara Peninsula Geological Society (NPGS)

From such a humble beginning, the Society has grown into a vibrant community of people from all walks of life. NPGS was founded in 1962 at the home of Dr. Robert Fisher. The society’s charter was granted on March 11, 1964. Over the next few years, the club continued to grow, with several field trips organized and its first annual gem & mineral show.
